Who is Frater Entelecheia?
Entelecheia is a writer and lecturer on Thelema, philosophy, and the western mystery tradition. He is the author of Erotic Liberation: Selected Lectures on Thelema 2019-2023, along with numerous articles such as “What is Consensus Thelema?” and “Is the Gnostic Mass a IX° Magical Ritual?” He has presented on Thelemic metaphysics, soteriology, and aesthetics for O.T.O. and general audiences. He holds an MA in Philosophy from New School for Social Research in New York. He lives in Seattle, Washington where he currently serves as Master of Horizon Lodge.
About the talk
“Nothing Comes from Nothing: The Minerval Ceremony & The Thelemic Cosmology”
In this lecture, Entelecheia will offer an interpretation of thesymbolism of the Minerval initiation ceremony of Mysteria Mystica Maxima. We will begin by considering the meaning of interpretation itself and what makes for a good interpretation, both in general and in the context of esoteric philosophy. We will consider the type of ritual the Minerval is—namely, an initiation—and how that sets further boundaries on what can count as a good interpretation. From there we will reflect upon the system of initiation Aleister Crowley created for O.T.O. candidates, using his public and private remarks to create a framework to interpret the Minerval ceremony’s symbolism. We will then rigorously apply this framework to the Minerval initiation to disclose its esoteric teachings and its implications for ethics, solidarity, and liberation.
