<\/a>Since I began speaking publicly about why I left OTO, I\u2019ve seen a familiar tactic surface again and again: the spiritualized justification of abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It doesn\u2019t always look like outright denial. Sometimes it shows up in language that pretends to be enlightened:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I hope you feel better soon.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It must be so painful not to be able to let go.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All people are like this\u2014it\u2019s just the human condition.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other words: If you\u2019re pointing to harm, you must be spiritually immature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the same old gaslighting in sacred drag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s often no direct accusation\u2014just the suggestion that you\u2019re not well. That you haven\u2019t reached the spiritual altitude necessary to “transcend” the dynamics you\u2019re describing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But let\u2019s be very clear: What they\u2019re selling as detachment is just complicity. And what they\u2019re calling spiritual is just cowardice in costume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because here\u2019s the real message underneath it all:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Saying the word ‘no’ is unspiritual.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And I reject that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve led spiritual communities. I know what it takes to create safe containers for truth and transformation. And I know this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Without the ability to say no\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 There\u2019s no difference between ethical and unethical behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 There\u2019s no boundary between me and you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 There\u2019s no space where authenticity can even exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This doesn\u2019t change the more “awake” you become. In fact, the deeper your realization, the more you become accountable to these truths\u2014not the less.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no level of awakening that justifies mistreating others. And there is no spiritual insight that cancels our obligation to protect others from harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not from discomfort or consequences\u2014harm. Real harm. From spiritualized self-destruction in service to someone else\u2019s power trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when I see people offering these slick, condescending takes\u2014often cloaked in the language of compassion\u2014I want to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. You are not above it all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. You are not beyond the need for ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. And to anyone who is watching with discernment: you don\u2019t sound wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You sound like someone trying to protect the system that hurt them\u2014because you don\u2019t know who you\u2019d be outside of it<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
