I used to dismiss outspoken critics of OTO as egotistical or mentally unwell. I thought, “They’re just bitter.” But what I see now is that, even if that’s true in some cases, the people running the organization are often just as egotistical and unwell—only they’re in positions of power. And worse: the system protects them.
The more disturbing truth is that emotional immaturity and instability are not disqualifying traits in leadership. In fact, they’re often rewarded. Meanwhile, people who speak out are discredited and discarded.
So when I finally stepped back and saw that clearly, I realized the problem isn’t just a few “disgruntled” ex-members. The problem is that the organization treats accountability like a threat—and instability like a prerequisite.
